​​Rotator Cuff Repairs

A patient’s operative arm post rotator cuff repair surgery is generally immobilized for a period of 4-6 weeks to facilitate healing. The surgery itself and immobilization results in limitation of shoulder range of motion as well as impairment in strength of the surgical arm which limits the patient’s ability to perform reaching, carrying, and lifting activities. Physical Therapists help patients post surgery regain their full ROM by performing Passive ROM, manual therapy (joint mobilization, soft tissue manipulation) as indicated, and eventually progressing to strengthening the involved arm to help patients regain their full function.
